Milawa Free Range
This year our Free Range Ducks are sourced from the vast pastures of the Milawa Free Range farm. This brand is familiar to most of our customers who enjoy the delicious Milawa Chickens we have in store all year round. The farm produce their ducks to the same farming philosophy applied to their chickens. Respecting the birds’ natural instincts, being raised in the open with the provision of protective shelters from extreme temperatures and pesky predators. The ducks are provided with a GM free diet, and spend their days foraging on the property. Using a cross breeding program involving Muscovie and Aylesbury ducks, the final product is truly unique and definitely worth considering for your Christmas table this year.
Our Rare Breed Hams are made using Berkshire pigs from Coltish Pork is owned and operated by third generation farmer Vicki and her family, on their property in Nambrok, Gippsland. Passionate about ethical, free range farming, their Berkshire pigs are treated with kindness and are free to roam in large grassy paddocks, wallow in the mud and generally forage around and do what pigs love to do. They're raised on chemical-free pastures and grown slowly without any growth hormones or antibiotics.
After weaning from their mothers at 6 weeks the piglets are fed a nutritious diet of milk, natural yoghurt (which they absolutely love), grain and grass until the age of around 3 months. From 3 months until maturity they continue to enjoy the grain and grass. Berkshire pigs are renowned for their superior juicy taste and texture. Vicki believes it’s the addition of natural yoghurt in their diet that makes the Coltish Pork so sweet and rich.
Numurkah Free Range Turkeys
Trish and Ian Simmons have been lovingly producing their free range turkeys for over 30 years. Along with their son, Ashley, and the occasional help from one of their daughters – Jodie; Ian and Trish work tirelessly through the year, producing their beautiful turkeys. Though many people only opt for turkey at Christmas, turkey consumption throughout the year is steady in Australia, which means the farm is full of activity all year round, and once November hits, Christmas time truly is the silly season for the Simmons family.
The turkeys spend their days roaming about the paddocks and scratching around as turkeys do. In the evenings and at times of extreme temperatures, the turkeys seek shelter in their purpose built eco-sheds for protection from the elements as well as foxes and other predators. The turkeys are a social bunch and don’t like to be isolated, so they’re always kept in good company and given lots of attention.
Peter has long been affiliated with Numurkah Free Range Turkeys, he believes in their consistent and high quality turkeys, and is proud to serve them to his customers again this Christmas.
