About Peter Bouchier

COMMITTED TO EXCELLENCE IN OUR TRADE

We are dedicated to providing our customers with the best meat and products you'll find anywhere in Melbourne. We do things properly, and we're not interested in cutting corners. That's what we mean when we say 'butchers of distinction'.

We get asked about pronunciation a lot, so for our curious customers: 'Bouchier' rhymes with 'voucher'. But Peter and Sue are happy to answer to your best guess.

We are passionate about quality meat

Meat sourced from leading producers

Handcrafted smallgoods and ready meals

Friendly and attentive customer service

Managing Director

Peter Bouchier

Since starting the business over 40 years ago, Peter has had the same passion for quality meat and quality service. Working with great people and chatting with his customers are some of the reasons why he loves what he does. His favourite things to do outside of work include travelling and horse racing. Asking Peter to choose his favourite cut of meat is like asking a parent to choose their favourite child, but he loves all things lamb - ideally cooked on a spit roast or BBQ.

Director

SUE BOUCHIER

As co-founder of Peter Bouchier, Sue Bouchier has been passionate about bringing top-quality produce to the community since day one. When she’s not working, you can find Sue in her garden, trying out new recipes or spending cherished moments with her family and grandchildren. Whether it's whipping up a delicious meal or sharing laughter around the table, she loves celebrating food and family together.

GENERAL MANAGER

JON TARABARAS

As the General Manager at Peter Bouchier, Jon Tarabaras is all about sharing his passion for quality and great service. He’s dedicated to making sure both customers and team members have the best experience possible. When he’s not at work, Jon loves diving into new food trends and spending time with his family. A true flavour fanatic, he especially enjoys preparing a delicious lamb shoulder making family meals a special occasion.

FINANCIAL MANAGER

AMY WILLIS

Amy has been working at Peter Bouchier for over 6 years and thoroughly enjoys the fact that the business has a real family focus. Outside work, her favourite things are drinking a glass of wine in the sun and walking the dog on the beach—activities that can be combined depending on the day. She enjoys beef eye fillet; her favourite cooking method is a quick pan sear to seal the juices and get that caramelised outside crust.

WHOLESALE ACCOUNT MANAGER

DANIELLE BOUCHIER

Danielle has also been around the business her whole life, so joining as the wholesale account manager and food technologist was only fitting. She loves product development and all the taste-testing that goes with it. Beef short ribs are her go-to cut, preferably cooked low and slow on her WeberQ. When she’s not working, she’s planning and researching her next holiday or browsing the grocery aisles for new and interesting food labels.

MARKETING MANAGER

JACQUELINE BOUCHIER

Peter Bouchier has always been a part of Jacqueline’s life, and she loves working with like-minded people who are equally obsessed with quality meat and products. Her favourite cut? She can’t go past a beef scotch fillet or a pork chop and loves a BBQ - less cleaning that way. When she’s not working, she’s tasting all the spicy margaritas she can get her hands on and immersing herself in the chaos of family life with primary-school-aged children, although not at the same time!

Retail operations manager

TOM BOUCHIER

Tom’s been working at Peter Bouchier for over 16 years and has found his favourite part of the job is helping customers find the best meat for special occasions and creating displays that people stop to take photos of. He can’t go past a marbled grass-fed scotch fillet, although he finds it very hard to look past the humble sausage. Outside work, Tom enjoys catching up with friends and family and watching sport.

Toorak Store Manager

Brian Maxted

Brian has been working at Peter Bouchier for over a decade. In his fast-paced role as store manager, he takes great pleasure in consistently providing customers with top-quality produce. Speaking of fast-paced, his go-to cut of meat is a scotch steak, but he loves a lamb shoulder if there’s time for a long and slow cook. Outside work, his favourite things include travelling, exploring restaurants, playing music, and playing video games.

Malvern Store Manager

Chris Gundry

Chris has also been in the business for well over a decade.  He enjoys working at Peter Bouchier and having the freedom to create and work with the best produce available. As the store manager, he’s all about leading by example and making sure customers get top-notch service. Outside of work, he loves spending time with his boys and baking desserts when time permits. He’s also a big fan of the rich flavours of Dry-Aged Cape Grim!

timeline

THE HISTORY OF PETER BOUCHIER

Peter Bouchier has a rich butchering history. Throughout it all, we've always focused on thoughtful and consistent service and products.

1976

After growing up next to his parents' butcher shop in Noorat, Peter moved to Melbourne to begin his apprenticeship at William Angliss at the age of 16.

1980

After completing his apprenticeship, Peter started managing his employer's shop in Malvern Road, Toorak.

1983

Peter and Sue Bouchier purchased the butcher shop and began the tradition that is Peter Bouchier–Butchers of Distinction.

2001

The second Peter Bouchier store opened in the David Jones Foodhall in Bourke St, Melbourne. This allowed us to extend our range of products and more people could taste the Peter Bouchier difference.

2007

With a burning desire to produce traditional style smallgoods, our operation expanded with a new facility, including a cutting room and smallgoods production. This facility also holds our head office and wholesale production.

2017

The latest addition to the Peter Bouchier family is the retail store within Malvern Central, which opened in December 2017. This store offers all of our signature range plus a stunning dry-ageing cabinet.

THE PETER BOUCHIER CHARITABLE FOUNDATION

For many years, our business has made contributions to various local fundraisers and initiatives, including local sporting groups, schools and kindergartens, charities, and community groups.

Establishing the Peter Bouchier Charitable Foundation has allowed us to extend our charitable reach, giving us the ability to partner with Australian-based charitable organisations on a larger scale, through the continued support of our customers. Peter Bouchier will select a charitable organisation to partner with, on an annual basis through careful thought and consideration.

In loving memory of our colleague Emma Corcoran, who sadly passed away in 2018 due to an aneurysm, we are partnering with the Brain Foundation. The Brain Foundation funds ground breaking projects that aim to advance diagnoses, treatment and patient outcomes, with 100 per cent of donations going directly to research.

The Peter Bouchier community was deeply saddened by Emma’s passing. We miss her greatly and honour her through our partnership with the Brain Foundation donating 100% of the proceeds from the sales of our Jute Shopping Bag.
